EXCERPT FROM LAQUITA MAXEY’S CHAPTER OF
LOVE LETTERS TO MY BLACK SON
Finances and money management is important to me, and I want you to be good stewards of your finances. Set a budget outlining all your expenses. Remember, your needs should come before your wants. As a college student, I made the mistake of getting too many credit cards and acquiring debt. I also spent a lot of unnecessary money shopping for clothes. I want to encourage you to break the cycle of poverty and learn to build wealth for you, your family, and our community.
