EXCERPT FROM MELONEE FERGUSON CHAPTER OF

LOVE LETTERS TO MY BLACK SON

You were perfect in my eyes. Your father and I named you Maveric.  Webster’s dictionary definition defines Maverick as,  “an unorthodox or independent-minded person”.  However, we saw more of you and in you at birth than any dictionary could ever capture.  We defined Maveric as ambitious, intelligent, caring, dedicated, and a great leader.
